On the evening of January 9, 2025, Galliker Transport AG was awarded the Watt d'Or 2025 for energy-efficient mobility, a prestigious Swiss prize for energy excellence. The award was presented at a ceremony in Bern and honored the traditional family business for its pioneering innovations in the field of sustainable, future-oriented logistics. The prize was awarded specifically for the innovative electric power tunnel project at the company's headquarters in Altishofen (LU).
Innovative electric power tunnel
A particular highlight is the underground electropower tunnel at the company's headquarters in Altishofen (LU), for the planning and implementation of which Galliker Transport received the Watt d'Or 2025. The tunnel, which houses the power lines for 28 charging stations, can be used to charge 28 electric trucks with a power output of up to 200 kW. “With the Elektropower tunnel, we are creating a future-oriented infrastructure that enables us to integrate our electric trucks efficiently and seamlessly into our logistics operations without disrupting the above-ground infrastructure, the space available or the processes. The tunnel integrates the charging process into the logistics and protects the infrastructure. This is a crucial step on the road to carbon neutrality,” explains Thomas Müller, Head of Infrastructure Services at Galliker. Watch the video to learn more about this impressive project!
Pioneering progress in zero-emission transportation
Galliker has consistently pushed forward the development of the zero-emission part of its transportation and logistics network in recent years. The use of solar-powered electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks and energy-optimized warehouses with state-of-the-art heat recovery systems has significantly reduced the company's CO2 emissions. As of December 2024, more than 10% of the national vehicle fleet – around 100 vehicles – are already on the road with alternative drive systems.
In addition to Galliker Transport AG, Fent AG, Thomas Lüem Partner AG, CKW AG, Frey+Cie Elektro AG and Evtec AG were also significantly involved in the E-Power Tunnel project. The partner companies were also awarded a Watt d'Or 2025 diploma.
