Swiss Solar Prize for sustainable building planning

For the second time since 2017, a building by the company Galliker has won the Swiss Solar Prize. The solar installation on the Car House in Altishofen was honored with an output of 1.97 megawatts.

The output of the solar system corresponds to 164 percent of the building 's own requirements - more than twice as much as it needs itself. With the surplus, 485 electric cars could each cover 12,000 kilometers per year. The surplus electricity produced is fed into the public grid at Galliker.

The Car House is used to store new cars for the Swiss market, which are temporarily stored at Galliker on behalf of customers before being delivered to the end customer. As the proportion of cars with alternative drive systems is steadily increasing in Switzerland, a large proportion of the parking spaces are equipped with charging stations for electric cars.

The Swiss Solar Prize has been awarded for 30 years. In recognition of the installation, Galliker receives the Swiss Solar Prize in Category B - PlusEnergyBuildings. The project is a "prime example of climate protection with a CO2-free supply for the building and the transport sector", writes the jury of the Swiss Solar Agency.

A building from Galliker, the Car Terminal in Altishofen, already received an award in 2017. With 4,000 square meters of photovoltaic surface, it produces 0.528 gigawatt hours of electricity per year. Solar systems have been part of the concept for new construction projects at Galliker for around 10 years.
