Swiss premiere: First fully electrically powered refrigerated trailer

In mid-November 2021, the first refrigerated trailer with a fully electrically powered refrigeration unit will go into operation at Galliker thanks to the innovative and cooperative partnership with Carrier Transicold in Switzerland.

With the help of an axle generator installed on the trailer, the system converts kinetic energy into electricity, which is stored in a battery pack and supplies the refrigeration unit with energy. While the refrigeration unit is running on battery power, an energy management system monitors the battery charge. If this falls below a certain level, the system triggers the generator to recharge the battery to ensure full cooling capacity at all times. Thanks to the battery pack, independent operation of the cooling system is guaranteed even when the trailer is stationary.

The eCool system can also be connected to the power grid when the trailer is parked. It takes less than four hours to fully charge the batteries. The fully electric and sustainable refrigerated trailer is driven through Switzerland by Futuricum's all-electric tractor unit. The entire vehicle is therefore completely CO2-free in operation!

"Greenpower" project to be discontinued

The "Greenpower" innovation project in Dagmersellen will not be continued following a joint agreement between the partners involved. Following a comprehensive strategic reassessment by Emmi Switzerland, this decision was taken after consultation with the project partners. This decision reflects the economic and technological framework conditions that have materialized in the course of project development. In particular, the long-term economic viability, the complexity of implementation and the regulatory framework conditions were re-analyzed.
