The environmentally friendly solution for transporting this large volume by rail began in Zeebrugge, Belgium. Immediately after the new cars arrived by ship, the ICO team reloaded the vehicles at the terminal onto 20 specialized rail wagons from the train operator Lineas. This direct transfer from ship to rail enabled a highly efficient logistics chain to be realized, which also sets new ecological standards: Transportation by rail corresponds to emissions of 3,555 kg CO2e.
Rail transportation on this scale requires the utmost precision in planning. In particular, the passage through the often busy Basel border station posed a logistical challenge, which was successfully mastered thanks to the excellent and cooperative coordination with SBB Cargo and Lineas. The unloading process at the Galliker terminal in Nebikon also required well thought-out timing: due to the impressive length of the train, the vehicles were unloaded efficiently in four stages between 06:00 and 11:00.
This success encourages us at Galliker to continue relying on sustainable rail solutions in vehicle logistics in the future. A big thank you goes to our partners Lineas and SBB Cargo for their excellent cooperation. Sustainable concepts such as this can only be successfully mastered through this shared spirit of partnership.
The continuation of this success story is already being planned. A third and fourth train with new wagons from various brands is expected shortly. Together, we are sending out a strong signal that impressively demonstrates the efficiency of international rail freight transport.
