An energy ecosystem that is unique in Switzerland is to be created in Dagmersellen over the next few years. The transport company Galliker, the milk processor Emmi, the industrial gas producer Linde (formerly PanGas) and the energy supplier CKW signed a letter of intent to this effect at the end of 2022 (press release). They plan to produce heat, electricity and biogenic CO2 from wood in Dagmersellen. The production of hydrogen will be examined again in a later project phase.

Public consultation
In the meantime, numerous project details for the zoning plan amendment have been clarified, a planning report has been prepared and the preliminary review by the cantonal authorities is underway. The Dagmersellen municipal council also gave the green light for the planning report. "Citizens now have the opportunity to find out about the project and comment on it as part of the public consultation process," says Markus Riedweg, Mayor of Dagmersellen.

The public consultation on the overall project and the rezoning for the planned combined heat and power plant will run from December 2, 2024 to January 5, 2025. In addition, the project managers will answer open questions from the public during question and answer sessions. The Q&A sessions will take place on December 10 and 17, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dagmersellen municipal administration.

Planning report for zoning plan amendment
An important point of the clarifications already made was the traffic routing to the wood-fired power plant. "With the access route via the Galliker site and the intended takeover of transportation by the company Galliker, we were able to find a good solution that only generates very little additional traffic for the population overall," says Rafael Mesey, Head of New Energies at CKW. Rafael Mesey adds that the land-use planning accompanying the planning report also states that CKW, as the power plant operator, will use regional wood as an energy source wherever possible.

The Greenpower project in brief
The current project planning envisages that electricity and heat will be produced in a wood-fired combined heat and power plant operated by CKW. The electricity will be used for electric trucks, but will also be fed into the public grid. "We assume that we will be able to run around 500 trucks on electricity once the project is completed. Each of these trucks will save 92 tons of CO2 per year. Together, that's 46,000 tons less CO2 in the atmosphere each year," says Peter Galliker, CEO of Galliker Transporte AG.

Linde aims to recover biogenic CO2 from the combustion process, for example for its own production of dry ice and industrial gases. Emmi uses the thermal energy for the production of fresh cheese specialties and milk powder. There are also plans for a district heating network in Dagmersellen.
