Peter Ballmer, Head of the Western Switzerland Region, shared his enthusiasm for this forward-looking development in his address to the invited guests: “2026 is a special year for the Aclens site. With the new Logistics Center 2, we were able to expand our capacity, and now the ‘Zero Emissions Network’ marks the next important step. The fact that we were able to achieve two milestones within just a few months makes me proud and shows that we in Western Switzerland are also setting the course early on for the years to come.”
New Site Network and Battery Storage Close the Energy Loop
While the large-scale rooftop PV systems and the innovative PV facade—with a total capacity of approximately 2,040 kWp—have been in operation since the opening ceremony in the spring, the go-live of the “Zero Emissions Network” marks a decisive technological upgrade for the site. With the commissioning of the site’s own medium-voltage grid, all energy flows on-site are now interconnected into an integrated energy system and optimally coordinated. The electricity generated on-site is used directly to power the logistics infrastructure or temporarily stored in the newly installed battery storage system with a capacity of 15 MWh. A significant portion of this is used to charge the steadily growing fleet of electric trucks overnight. This newly closed energy loop will make it possible to use 100% of the electricity generated on-site in the future, thereby achieving exceptionally high energy efficiency.
High-Performance Charging Infrastructure and Part of “ASTAG Charge”
A key component of the overall system is the charging infrastructure for the electric transport fleet. Since March 2026, 40 modern charging points have been available at the Aclens site, reliably supplying energy to up to 50 electric trucks overnight. As part of the industry-wide charging network “ASTAG Charge,” this infrastructure will extend its impact beyond the company itself in the future by making the charging points accessible to other transportation companies within the industry. Already during the current test phase, more than 60 companies have joined this network. With currently over 40 locations, a growing charging network is emerging in Switzerland that specifically supports the entire industry in the electrification of its fleets. The official launch of “ASTAG Charge” will take place on November 10, 2026.
National rollout is progressing rapidly
The go-live in Aclens marks another important step in the national rollout of the “Zero Emissions Network.” After its sister company, Imbach Logistik AG, kicked things off in Schachen just under a week earlier, Aclens is now the second location within the Galliker Group where the system has successfully gone live. The family-owned company is actively driving this major project forward, with additional locations such as Möhlin (AG) and S. Antonino (TI), as well as all other Swiss “ Galliker ” locations, set to follow in stages. These targeted investments in infrastructure will lay the groundwork for putting more than 760 heavy-duty commercial vehicles on the road by 2035—all fully electric and emission-free.
