Electrically powered diesel cooling units now in use

Galliker Transport AG is taking another consistent step towards sustainable and emission-free transport solutions. By connecting three electric trucks directly to electrically powered refrigeration units on the trailers, a further solution has been developed on the way to completely CO₂-neutral refrigerated vehicles.

For the first time, Carrier's installed refrigeration units have been modified so that they can be operated directly via the high-voltage battery of the electric tractor unit. The energy is supplied via a 400V voltage converter that provides the power directly from the electric truck's high-voltage battery. The result: the refrigeration unit runs completely electrically and no longer requires fossil fuels.

A particular highlight of this solution is the intelligent further development of existing technology. The existing diesel refrigeration units already have an integrated electric motor. This has now been used to switch operation from the main diesel engine to the tractor unit's high-voltage system. In this way, proven components can continue to be used sensibly and at the same time be brought up to date with the latest developments in electromobility.

The pilot project thus follows on from our Swiss premiere in 2021: Back then, the first refrigerated trailer with a fully electric refrigeration unit went into operation in Switzerland. The eCool system used an axle generator that converted kinetic energy into electricity. A battery pack stored this electricity and supplied the cooling unit independently of the truck. The advantage of this solution: the cooling system could also be operated independently when the trailer was stationary, completely CO₂-free and without any direct influence on the tractor unit. There are now already 27 refrigerated trailers with this technology in daily use.

With the new approach, Galliker is testing another practical technology to further develop existing components in a meaningful way and consistently drive forward the electrification of the transport chain.

Groundbreaking ceremony for pioneering E-Park & Ride project

On 13 January 2026, Galliker Transport AG reached an important milestone: the traditional ground-breaking ceremony for the new "E-Park & Ride" project took place in Dagmersellen. At the same time, the completed E-Power Bridge was officially opened just a few metres away. Both projects are part of a modern, energy-efficient and future-oriented infrastructure for electric mobility in heavy goods transport.

"Greenpower" project to be discontinued

The "Greenpower" innovation project in Dagmersellen will not be continued following a joint agreement between the partners involved. Following a comprehensive strategic reassessment by Emmi Switzerland, this decision was taken after consultation with the project partners. This decision reflects the economic and technological framework conditions that have materialized in the course of project development. In particular, the long-term economic viability, the complexity of implementation and the regulatory framework conditions were re-analyzed.
